The Lithuanian health system is organised around the family doctor. When you have a medical problem he or she is the first to contact, except in cases of the emergency. If you need a consultation with a specific doctor, the family doctor will see you first and then refer you to one. Medication prescribed by a doctor can be bought at the nearest pharmacy. To buy some of the medicine you will be asked a doctor’s prescription. More information about Lithuanian Health care institutions you may find here.

In cases of accident or emergency, every hospital provides first aid. For life threatening emergencies you can dial 03 from a regular phone or 112 from mobile.
